This album is a complete no-skip album. Every song is unique and has a sound of its own. Tower of Babel and Bitter Fingers are master pieces and my personal favorite songs. Someone Saved My Life Tonight received the most radio play time on the album, but the songs on the albums are all gems in their own right. The song Better off Dead is also a fun song lead by heavy drums and a catchy sound. 5 Stars -No doubt ..I recommend the whole album !!!

This is Elton’s best effort in my opinion. To me this is the peak of Elton and Bernie’s songwriting. This is the only Elton John album where there is not a single song that I don’t like. With the exception of his greatest hits albums, this is his best. As far as I’m concerned there are 3 albums that anyone who wants to hear great Elton must have: “Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy”, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and “Don’t Shoot Me, I’m Only the Piano Player”. In that order. I think these three albums show why Elton John was one of the biggest, if not the biggest, rockstar of the 70’s.

I'm astounded there hasn't been one review of this album! That being said, I had to write one. I won't attempt to review each song. Suffice to say, if you enjoy Elton's music, this album is a must-have! If you've never really listened to his music, this is a great way to start. Following his and Bernie's early years right up to the release of Empty Sky, Captain is easily Elton's most intimate work. Musically, it's definitely varied, with country, rock, R & B, disco, and classical influences throughout. Lyrically, as I said before, intimate and revealing. The boys bare their souls on this project, and we all are the beneficiaries of their brilliance. So if you've thought of buying this album, but just never have, do yourself a favor... Get it! You absolutely won't regret it.

Music is the art of arranging sounds in time to produce a composition through the elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre. It is one of the universal cultural aspects of all human societies. General definitions of music include common elements such as pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics (loudness and softness), and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture (which are sometimes termed the "color" of a musical sound). Different styles or types of music may emphasize, de-emphasize or omit some of these elements. Music is performed with a vast range of instruments and vocal techniques ranging from singing to rapping; there are solely instrumental pieces, solely vocal pieces (such as songs without instrumental accompaniment) and pieces that combine singing and instruments. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike; "(art) of the Muses"); see § Etymology and glossary of musical terminology.

Music can be divided into genres (e.g., country music) and genres can be further divided into subgenres (e.g., country blues and pop country are two of the many country subgenres), although the dividing lines and relationships between music genres are often subtle, sometimes open to personal interpretation, and occasionally controversial. For example, it can be hard to draw the line between some early 1980s hard rock and heavy metal. Within the arts, music may be classified as a performing art, a fine art or as an auditory art. Music may be played or sung and heard live at a rock concert or orchestra performance, heard live as part of a dramatic work (a music theater show or opera), or it may be recorded and listened to on a radio, MP3 player, CD player, smartphone or as film score or TV show.
