It's about time this album was released here in the US. This album is a great showcase of her meshing her love of American style R&B with J-Pop sensibilities. You can tell she had a blast making this album, which makes it a very enjoyable listen. FAST CAR is a great starter and may possibly be the best song on the album. (Too bad they didn't release the occupying music video, because it's fantastic and hot.) She keeps the energy going with COPY THAT, and doesn't let up until FIRST TIMER. It took a few listens to actually enjoy it, but eventually I learned to like it somewhat. Dr. was a wonderful surprise. It's very unlike anything she's ever done, and I applaud the experiment with the Sci fi electronica sound. My only complaint is the placement of Defend Love after The Meaning of Us. It's a strange song to end an album, since it revs the energy back up after the obligatory ballad. To be honest, probably the problem is with the ballad being so out of place, though it is a rare ballad that I like by her, so I can let it slide. Her strength has always been her high energy dance/R&B club bangers, though I know people will argue that her concert staple "Can you Celebrate" is great, I just can't get into it. This and her previous album PLAY are my favorites, and I really really hope that iTunes and Avex will soon release her latest albums Uncontrolled and FEEL, because they would really do well here with them being primarily English and electronica based.
